Distraught

A lesson in what not to do while transferring data from camera to laptop.

We went to Chirk Castle on Sunday for a few hours of fresh air and to let the off-spring release some energy and pent-up aggression on grass and shrubbery. We took a picnic and ate on the castle grounds (despite the signs asking no to do so - we saw those on the way out, sorry). We took the camera, just to get some photographic evidence that we do take the children out, they do get fresh air and exercise and they do get some culture (some). I took quite a few photos, some of which I was pretty proud of.

I also got a ‘telling off’ for taking photos in the Castle itself - strictly forbidden for security purposes.

Unfortunately while I tried to transfer the files across to the laptop, I managed to delete over half of them. Don’t ask me how, I don’t frigging know. Not only did I delete them, but I also managed to wipe the memory card in the camera. Gutted.

Enough

July 21, 2008

Here’s a quick painting I did last night for Illustration Friday -’Enough’. It depicts the ever greedy politician feeding off the very people that keep them in power.

Last weekend, or the weekend before?

July 19, 2008

Last weekend (or was it the weekend before?) we went on our first camping trip. In hindsight we had our expectations set a little too high… especially in relation to how easy it would be to get three small children to sleep in a tent with no real walls or doors. At more than one point through the night I’m pretty sure that both Jenny and myself were swearing blind we would never, EVER, do this again. However after toast and tea for breakfast our spirits lifted. We went to Beaumaris in Anglesey. A small but beautiful sea-side town.

… so frustrated with the firewall at work - remind me to upload some photo’s when I get home… :)

Like one of those movies that starts at the end

July 18, 2008

I went home early on Tuesday and spent some wonderful time with the kids. That’s not sarcasm, it was real, funny and genuine. An enjoyable time. Usually I get home just in time to stop Jenny losing her mind and climbing the walls. The kids are usually tired and very emotional. When kids get tired, they lose their sense of reason (much like overseas call centres), you can talk and talk, beg and plead, but they’ll always go right back to the start and yes, start again. This is my number one bug-bear, having to repeat myself like a scratched record - over and over and over. It’s demoralising and bloody hard work.

Riley, Bella, meAs I’m sat there eating dinner I start to see the first signs of this madness from Bella and within minutes she’s in full blown self destruct mode and like a bout of athletes foot in the swimming club it starts ti infect the other kids and before you know it, Jen and I are sat at the table, surrounded by a cacophany that would should be used in hostage or siege situations to demoralise the hostage takers, instead of the Spice Girls greatest hits.

That’s when I realised that for months I’ve been coming in at the end of the movie. It was a strange sense of deja vu - I’d seen this scene over and over for weeks, and I had finally got to see the build up to it.

I miss my family.
