I love this artwork by London based illustration studio Hellovon and although I'm a big Elvis fan, my favourite by far is the Gil Scott-Heron... but then the drawings are also sweet!

I think I may have to start a collection of these works... It's not a question of when, as which one?

Getting the rusty old brushes out

So... last night I spent some time getting to know my artistic side again with a little sketching with the water colours and soft pencils in my sketch book. It was a little painful at first, any artistic work for the past 18 months or so has been almost totally digital and I found myself getting way to anal and working in a tight unnatural fashion and getting upset when the paints didn't do exactly what I had in mind. I think that I need to do this regularly in order to loosen up again and work on a much larger format (an A4 sketch book has it's limitations). Overall though I enjoyed myself and the work, although stayed, wasn't that awful. I'll be scanning things in and posting them soon.

Inspiration

I've been inspired by a lot of things recently, I've been getting back into The Stones, Pink Floyd , New Order and various other musical influences from my past along with looking at Jenny Saville, Janet Bell and Gustav Klimt (among others too many to mention). I've been working on an inspiration section for this site, so that while I'm browsing if I find an image I like, I can store it for future reference - it's more for my use than anyone else, but then so is this entire site. I have also arranged for my timber to be delivered for my studio in the garden, so with luck in a few weeks I'll be out there till all hours painting and getting 'arty'... I can't wait.
